Big Rush in Durban

South Africa has undergone drastic changes since the end of Apartheid. Not only is our society transforming itself in racial terms,  but on the technological front one can access the internet, go to an eCommerce store and buy a tablet computer online. In addition to this, SA is also leading the way in terms of big stadium design innovation…

The Moses Mabhida Stadium delivers, when it comes to ultimate fun and excitement. The “Big Rush Big Swing”, is the world’s tallest swing, and is the only stadium swing in the world. That alone makes the whole experience sound scary, fun and exciting. The opportunity to use the swing should have most of us scuttling to find hotels in Durban.

Let’s take you through the jump itself. You’re fitted with a full body harness, which is found at the stadium shop. For your safety you’re taken to the practice area for a demonstration just to make sure you’re ready and willing to go through with the jump.

The climb to the base of the stadium arch offers spectacular views of the stadium, if you haven’t seen this magnificent beauty, then you haven’t lived.

The Mosese Mabhida soccer stadium hosted a number of world cup matches and the design of the arch resembles one of a horn. The view isn’t limited to the stadium only; it included a unique view of the city of Durban and the magnificent Indian Ocean. Additional jump rope is attached to the one you’re wearing also for safety reasons.

Did I mention the height? Its 106 metres above the ground and once you jump you’re going at 120kph towards the world cup pitch below. Yet the experience is one you’re bound to remember and treasure for the rest of your life.

For those of you who are ultimate adrenaline junkies, it’s the perfect outdoor sport. If you’re scared of heights, it might be wise to give it a miss, but if you’re looking for a different kind of experience, it’s worth trying out. You only live once, so make it count.
